UGA's daily mission is to extend
our intellectual resources to the
people of Georgia.
AT THE UNIVERSITY
OF GEORGIA, everything we do is public service. We
are the state’s comprehensive university — not
only a broad and diverse repository of learning, but a
great teaching institution and an active seeker of new
knowledge. Our daily mission is to extend our intellectual
resources to the people of Georgia and the world.
There is no city or town or county in which UGA’s presence
is not strongly felt. Mayors, farmers, doctors, teachers, legislators,
CEOs, writers, artists, school children and their families —
all benefit from our scholarship and its practical applications.
Around the world, we work with emerging democracies in Eastern
Europe and with developing markets in China. We are tracking
nuclear material from the former Soviet Union and researching
the long-term impact of the Chernobyl disaster. UGA students
study abroad in dozens of countries, and we now rank eighth
in the nation for total study abroad participation.
The well-being of the state of Georgia is inseparable from
that of its flagship university, but our reach extends far
beyond Georgia, helping to create sustainable development in
Ecuador, to control the spread of emerging diseases in the
tropics, to provide nutrition for infants in the poorest regions
of Africa. And UGA plays a major role in equipping Georgia
and its workforce for the global economy. The ever-growing
international scope of the University of Georgia is vital to
the future of this state.
To respond to the challenges of the 21st century, the knowledge,
talent and creativity of UGA scholars is needed as never before.
It is crucial that the University of Georgia continue its
remarkable rise in stature to become one of the premier universities
in the United States.
The Archway to Excellence Campaign must be successful if we
are to REACH THAT GOAL.
