From the Dean
DR. THOMAS P. LAUTH, DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

It is my privilege to greet you on behalf of The University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs.

The School of Public and International Affairs remains focused on advancing the public interest by preparing scholars and practitioners for careers in public service. You will find a vibrant community of scholars committed to teaching students and informing public policy through research.

The School is home to three academic departments-international affairs, political science, and public administration and policy. For those who desire to change the world, our academic programs provide a necessary component-quality education. For example, the Master of Public Administration and Policy degree program is recognized as one of the best in the nation, currently ranked third by U.S. News & World Report. However, quality education involves more than what goes on in the classroom. If you visit our website, you will notice a number of opportunities available beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Interested in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction? Check out the internationally renowned Center for International Trade and Security.

Known throughout the University of Georgia for excellence in teaching, the faculty at the School of Public and International Affairs plays a crucial role in the success of our mission. Four of the faculty members have received the University's most prestigious teaching award, several have been selected for college-level teaching awards, and three have been recognized by the University's Honors Program. I encourage you to get to know our faculty.

Parents and students frequently ask what kinds of careers our graduates pursue. Numbering in the thousands, alumni are literally serving around the world.  I continue to be proud of the work graduates and faculty do to improve the world in which we live.

A solid foundation is in place, but there is more work to be done to realize the full potential of the School of Public and International Affairs. New faculty must be hired, top students must be recruited, and new programs must be developed and implemented. Our alumni, those holding political science, international affairs and public administration degrees from UGA, are invited to share in this opportunity with their time, talents and gifts to the School.

Join us as we contribute to the public interest through scholarship, research, and service.
